A charming enameled celadon bowl made in Arita in the 18th century. Japanese poems are written in overglaze black and gold. The black lettered poem is by The Monk Kisen in the 9th cntury, about his lowly hut in Uji. The poem is translated by Clay MacCauley (1843-1925)

My lowly hut is
Sheltering the harvest-hut
Southeast from the capital.
Thus I choose to live.
And the world in which I live
Men have named a “Mount of Gloom.”
